Challenge yourself

An exciting part of your adventure is working in remote or regional locations. We’re looking for Graduates that are resourceful, resilient, flexible and share our values.

Our Graduates gain experience over a two-year period across a range of environments, where working on exciting real-life projects with leading professionals using the best in technology and processes. 

Working as part of a team dedicated to the safe exploration, mining and production of gold, you will gain invaluable hands-on professional experience and development. 

Following the completion of the Graduate Programme, we transition graduates to fill permanent positions bringing with them a strong understanding of our business and culture, established networks, a broad range of experience across our organisation, and demonstrated commitment to our values.
 

What are we looking for in our Graduates?

Our next Australian Graduate Programme intake commences in January 2020. Graduate roles rotate between our regional Cadia operations in New South Wales and our FIFO Telfer mine site in Western Australia.

We are seeking applications from recent, or soon-to-be graduates (course completion in either 2019 or 2020) with a tertiary qualification in the following disciplines:

•    Data Science
•    Electrical Engineering
•    Environment
•    Mine Geology and Exploration Geology
•    Geotechnical Engineering
•    Mechanical Engineering
•    Metallurgy
•    Mining Engineering

You will have a strong academic record coupled with excellent people skills and leadership potential. 

Previous vacation work experience and a demonstrated commitment to the community will be highly regarded.

Please note we can only consider applicants who are Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents for our Australian based positions.

Graduate Programme FAQS

Where could I be based for my role?

Our Australian based graduates are typically rotated between our Cadia operations in Orange, New South Wales, and our Telfer mine site in Western Australia (FIFO from Perth).  Upon completion of our Programme, graduates are invited to apply for roles at any of our sites including Head Office in Melbourne, or at any of our international sites (visa restrictions may apply).

I have applied to Newcrest before. Can I reapply?

You are welcome to reapply if you still meet our eligibility criteria (including course completion in either 2019 or 2020).

Do you pay relocation expenses?

If you have to move to Orange or Perth start your role with us, we will provide reasonable relocation assistance.

What minimum qualifications do I need to apply for a graduate role?

The minimum qualification is a Bachelors degree or equivalent in the relevant discipline to which you are applying, and that you have completed/are completing your degree in 2019 or 2020.

Can I defer my start date?

Graduates commence on 20 January 2020 however, we will work with you to identify a start date that is mutually agreeable should your circumstances require.

Vacation programme

Our Australian Vacation Programme provides a practical and fulfilling 12-week paid work placement over the period December to February each year for university students currently studying towards the completion of their degree.

We are seeking applications from penultimate year or soon to graduate students (course completion in either 2019 or 2020) with a tertiary qualification in the following disciplines:

Where could I be based for my role?

Vacation Students have the opportunity to work at one of our Australian operations – either Cadia Operations in Orange, NSW or Telfer mine site in the Pilbara region in WA (FIFO from Perth) For Vacation opportunities outside of Australia, email careers@newcrest.com.au

When can I apply for the Vacation Programme?

Applications for our 2019-20 Summer Vacation Programme open in May each year

I have applied to Newcrest before. Can I reapply?

You are welcome to reapply. To be eligible you must be currently studying or have just completed a relevant degree.

Do you pay relocation expenses?

If you have to move to Orange or Perth to work with us, we will meet reasonable costs associated with your relocation, including:
•    Rental assistance for the 12-week period of the placement
•    Return travel for you at the commencement and completion of your Programme.

I need a work visa. Should I arrange one before I apply?

You can submit your application without having a work visa. If your application is successful and you need a work visa, the offer will be conditional upon obtaining a work visa. We cannot guarantee the approval of your work visa.

How should I dress for my interview?

Your initial interview will be conducted either over the phone or in Melbourne. Smart business dress is appropriate for an interview conducted in person.
 

Can I do Vacation work over a different period?

It is our preference for all Vacation students to complete Vacation work at the same time.
 

Can I defer my start date?

It is our preference for all Vacation students to commence at roughly the same time however we will work with you to identify a start date that is mutually agreeable should your circumstances require.
