PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (PTNHM) has been advised by Indonesian authorities that the Indonesian national who was critically injured in the helicopter accident and who was transferred to a local hospital today has died.
All 10 people on the helicopter have died, eight employees and contractors and two helicopter crew.
The names of the 10 people cannot be released until formal identification processes have been concluded by Indonesian and other authorities.
Newcrest and Aneka Tambang are working closely with local Indonesian authorities and the Australian and South African consulates in Indonesia.
The families of those affected have been contacted. Support and counselling services to the families is being provided.
Operations at the Gosowong mine remain suspended and support services are being provided for site employees.
The cause of the crash is unknown. Investigations by Indonesian authorities and the companies involved are underway.
